The Grinch is Elsa??

   So as we cleaned up the house, boxing up all of Christmas, we forgot to include one thing... How the Grinch Stole Christmas. This being my favorite of the Christmas films, I wasn't mad that we left this one out, but as I watched for the kazillionth time, I noticed some similarities between this classic film and one of the classics of our time.
                                   
                                         Today, I share the interesting similarities between :

 

 

1. The Main Character's misfit characteristics

 

So as we know, The Grinch is a young child to begin with, arriving like all the other

baby whos do, but as everyone can see, this thing is obviously way wrong. Unlike the other whos, the kid has green hair covering his body, he hates Christmas (the whos most celebrated holiday), and he's just lacking in this holiday spirit that the town infests during year.

 

Elsa too shares a sort of outcast type of characteristic as well as she's pushed away from the outside

world due to her mysterious powers and is perceived as a threat to her sister and kingdom. She is shut off and is treated differently due to these powers.

 

2.  Their fear/anger over takes them. Resulting with them running up a mountain top and living there.

     This one is super weird, but both end up doing it. As the Grinch grows older and becomes sick of the whos bullying toward him, even when he tries to cooperate with the holiday traditions, he creates chaos and thrashes the classroom, sending his classmates away in fear. As he too runs away, he runs far out at the edge of town and climbs up into the mountain, and there he remains, creating a pretty awesome house for himself too!

 

    Elsa, now an orphaned princess, must now take the responsibilities in her parents place as Queen. This too is a way to cooperate and please the people of the small town. As she must hide her secret from both the town and her sister. During the coronation celebration, she accidentally creates havoc as her power is revealed. The people run away in fear as she too runs away, leaving behind her kingdom and heads up a mountain. (Where she too builds an awesome house!)

 

 

3. Both relate to hearts a lot.

 

Now this is a smaller connection, but it's pretty meaningful to both films. As the

Grinch now lives alone, he  goes through his small and pretty boring routines everyday. One being, checking his heart size. His heart size is determined by how much love or hatred he feels, and being a hateful Grinch, that heart is pretty darn small. Now at the end of the film however, as he gains an understanding of what love really is, his heart grows three sizes, resulting in him understanding the emotion of love.

 

Elsa, though her heart doesn't grow three sizes, gains the understanding of love after,

(spoiler) she freezes her own sister's heart. When danger threatens Elsa's own life, her sister Anna, risks her own life and stands up to the threat, resulting in Anna freezing into a solid statue of ice. When Elsa sees her sister in this state, she feels the feeling of love, and cries from the loss of her sister. But, thanks to Elsa's warmth in her heart, Anna's frozen heart is thawed and thus the two are reunited thanks to the power of love.

 

4. Both have their own song.

 

Even though the Grinch's wasn't as repeated on the radio as much as Elsa's,

the Grinch's is an iconic theme for the Christmas. For all those grouches during the Christmas season, the Grinch covers his hatred and disgusting characteristics in one song.

 

And for those who haven't heard the hit song sung by Elsa in Frozen.... obviously,

you have saved your ears. Honestly, I don't think I've ever dreaded hearing a Disney song, but this song has proved me wrong. None the less though, this song I believe will forever be Elsa's theme song.

 

 

5. Both have a cheery buddy who helps them out.

 

As the Grinch sits in his own bitter hatred toward the whos, he is confronted by one of

the youngest of the whos, a miss Cindy Lou-Who. She has learned the things that had happened to the Grinch, and instead of fearing him, she goes up to his home and tries her best to encourage him to come back and to celebrate Christmas with them just this once. Beside her mission, however, I'll label some of Cindy's characteristics that make her the cheery side of the Grinch.

 

 

* She's kind, and though she sees the Grinch's worst, she still holds hope in him.

 

* She's determined; even when her town doubts her thoughts on the Grinch, she stays true toward her friend.

*Lastly, she's equally as important; though she is only the second major role in the film, this movie needs her just as much as the Grinch. She is somewhat the hero and plays a key to the end.

 

Elsa's sister Anna, the young oblivious sister is sort of in the shadows as her sister's curse absorbs 

the attention of her parents and most of the castles' staff; Anna, we learn is a hopeless romantic, falling for the first signs of love. But despite her silly and quirky nature, she also holds much to the film like Cindy does to the Grinch.

 

 

* She's kind; showing an open nature toward her subjects and a more socialness than her sister

 

* She's determined; As her sister is claimed to be a monster and the town falls into fear, she holds tightly toward her hopes and promises to bring back prosperity.

 

* She's equally important; though Elsa has grabbed the film and audience, Anna brings to this film a comic relief, a traditional fantasy romance, a hero and a key to the end.

 

(AND BOTH HAVE THOSE WINTER JACKETS AND EAR MUFFS!)

 

Now if that isn't enough for you, I don't know what is. Though Elsa wasn't 'truly' the enemy

The 13. The Hair. And the dumb eagles.

   I'm going to make some of you cry. Not because an amazing person died or any drastic thing like that. No. This is just one of those cries that a girlfriend has after she finds out that her boyfriend doesn't like Breakfast at Tiffany's.

             Here's the honest truth...
                                             up until November.... I had never ever..
                                 watched Lord of the Rings trilogy or The Hobbit trilogy.


    I'm sorry for how slow and behind I am, truly I am. It's not until November did I truly discover the years I'd missed not having these films in my life. My sister, a fairly big fan, was wanting me to watch these films in order, starting with The Hobbit trilogy, because she wanted me to see at least on of these films in theaters (being that the last Hobbit film just recently came out in December).

   So she had me watch the first two Hobbit films, leading up to our trip to the movies for the third. But let's not talk about the third one, we have to start with the first Hobbit film she showed me. Now I know this film is called "The Hobbit." and indeed, there is a hobbit/the hobbit. But as we watch these films, we are quickly introduced to a group of thirteen dwarves and quickly we fall in love with them.

    The deciding who my favorite dwarf at the end of these films was the hardest decision ever! It was just as hard as when I tried to pick a favorite character out of the Guardians of the Galaxy film. All the dwarves are different and all had awesome personalities. I could describe them all, but, I'll spare you the many pages of reading. + you can just google them.

    As far as the elves go.... I seriously want whatever hair product their using because they're hair is flawless. If L'Oreal ever wants a mascot for their hair products, use Legolas! Forget Thor! But I also loved their clean and high proper manor. They just are so perfect. And then their army is pretty affective as well as their weapons. One thing I do have to complain about the elves is their women. Elvish women must not like Elvish men at all. And they always fall for other types of guys, whether it be human, dwarf, goblin, seriously anything other than a male Elf is fine! (But stay away from Kili Tauriel...... he's mine.. he's my precious......)

 

 Now as I'm watching these films and watching the many battles these dwarves and hobbit go through, it's pretty easy to see how these little guys have some trouble here and there. I mean, sure they're pretty amazing despite their size, but honestly, when I saw the damage and power of these random eagles that Gandalf summoned I was in shock.

 

WHERE HAVE THESE THINGS BEEN HALF OF THE TIME!!?

 

     These guys have been walking, and walking, and walking. Like half of the movie is them running through this wide open area; and Gandalf has had this ability the whole time?!

 

 

 

    And once these eagles do come and save the dwarves butts from possible horrible circumstances,

these eagles swoop down giving them all a lift and then instead of taking them to this mountain that's super far off, they drop them off on this tall boulder.  Sure it's got a great view of the mountain we need to get to.... but ..... I'm just curious to how they got down that.

 

Anyway, as of now, I have watched the Hobbit trilogy and have started the Lord of the Rings.

And as I've learned from just watching the first film of this trilogy, already I know this is going to take a bit longer than the Hobbits. The conversation my sister, brother-in-law, and I had the day watching it:

 

*Disc one of the LOTR: Fellowship ends*

Me: That was a great film! So was that it? Do we watch the next one?

My sister: No, that was just part one, now we watch part two.

B.I.L.: Yeah, this is the blueray edition, it's got extra footage.

Me:.......... But it's been like.. 2 hours!!

 

Yeah, just one of the films alone had to be split onto two discs. Discovering that after you've

just sat for two hours already and you've just finished part one...

 

And what happened here?? Two Goblin Kings, one from the 80's one from 2000's.

 

 

In which Lyndsey begs for forgiveness and obsesses over older men

With the assault of college on my dwindling pool of free time, I've really had no opportunity to dedicate myself to this blog. (WHICH IS SAD.) Of both my blogs, this one in particular feels like a place where I can really joke around and have fun without the pressure of others to keep me from writing. I love that!

After seeing Rigby's recent post, (we should name her queen and lay golden flowers in her wake), I've been inspired to write my own version of it as well. While my list is quite extensive I've chosen to just focus on just three in particular. (Those of which who come immediately to my mind.)

First we have, John Reese. While John is utterly gorgeous, (I cannot even express it enough), his acting is beyond amazing. He is smart, witty, DISBELIEVINGLY EPIC, and has this aura about him that just screams 'I'm a man, deal with it.'
   Needless to say, I was swept off my feet within the first few minutes of his acting. While not afraid to do what needs to be done, he expels both a gritty dark side, but also a merciful one as well. Tormented by his past mistakes, he saves lives in order to give his life meaning, capturing only a fraction of why he is truly an exemplary character.

From the T.V. show: Person of Interest

 Second is, Jace Wayland. (Or whatever they call him nowadays, I believe he has like three names currently.) While I enjoyed the first book of the City of Bones, my vigor thoroughly exploded over Jace as soon as I saw the city of bones. While he doesn't really fit the, 'older man' criteria I mentioned in the title of this post, Jace is enough to blow a hole through whatever wall stands in his way.
   While being a cocky dreamboy, he manages to have the most alluring appearance I've ever faced upon the earth. At the end of the City of Bones film, my sister and I turned to one another and just melted in jittering fangirl heaps. JACE IS GORGEOUS.
   After I saw Jace's character in film, I really had no other words of discontent to utter. I could sit on a couch and play re-runs of the movie all day just to creepily fangirl from a distance.

Finally we have, John Thornton. (I must have a thing for Johns, it's getting repetitive). While I can't recall if this is true or not, Mr. Thornton's character is the first older man I remember having melted over as a younger individual. First a cold, close minded gentleman, John makes a sweeping change of heart towards the end of the film as he falls for Margaret. Very much akin to a Mr. Darcy situation, Thornton played every angel of his part excellently.
   Though his looks are magnificent, there is no denying that his character was what really won me over in the end.

     Okay ladies. This Christmas time is a time of giving, and so, I've collected some of the best geek guys for this blog, and I'll be labeling the reasons why we love them and why they have been such great gifts to us throughout the years. You're welcome!

                     If there are some Loki fans out there, please give this blog some love because I promise you they'll be much more of this guy on here later on! Since seeing this amazing actor in Thor, the Avengers and Thor the Dark World, I became an instant fan. I've watched some of his other BBC films and shows and I don't understand why this man wasn't more popular sooner! Seriously, he's one of the coolest villains and actors out there. If you don't know him...... where've you been!?

 

Aidan Turner

(Best known for Kili)

 

                       One of my more newer favorite actors is Aidan. Of course, I'm lame and discovered him through The Hobbit trilogy like others did, but since my seeing him, I've ventured into more of his television shows and I've fallen more and more in love with this amazing guy. And although he's amazing, I can't help but be sad when I see him out of his Kili costume. But don't worry Aidan! You'll always be a dwarf to me! ...... always...

The first crush we had as a gamer. The hyrulian elf, Link, though silent throughout all

of the games, still shows his emotions well enough for all us fangirls to swoon. Yeah, he's still one of my all time favorites!

                Yes, even Sheldon Cooper makes it onto the cute list. Although he is not as tough or manly as the other three, you can't help but love Jim and the work he's done on The Big Bang Theory. And even in real life, he's still just as amazing and geeky. Jim has created an adorableness about him that just keeps us on our toes as we watch more episodes, and who can forget the soft kitty song!?

So I was going to do just Howl, but then I remembered that the amazing Christian Bale

voices for him, so this is a double win! Howl won us over with his slick charm and polite attire, but so did Christian Bale with his role as Batman and just by being himself. Both Howl and Bale are just two amazing characters, and both could not be left off the list.

Tis the season to watch reruns, falalalalaa

        Yes! It is the beautiful Christmas season, where stores are crowded and yards are covered in inflatable fat men! Oh the magic!

    At my house, we've collected most of the Christmas specials and movies. Most are still in VCR tape form. (Yeah, those still exist!) And no matter how many times I've watched them, they still never get old. Though I love them all, they're are definite favorites to watch. And I've decided to share my top five with you! Maybe you've seen them, maybe you haven't. Whatever the case, here are some Christmas films and moments that you'll love to watch over and over again!

                         "It's Christmas Time Again Charlie Brown!"

 

       I can hear  the "good grief" already. Though this is not the original Charlie Brown Christmas with the sad little Christmas tree, this newer episode contains some great moments. With a kid named, "Harold Angel", a dumb Christmas wreath, an angel that says "HOCKEY STICK!", and an angered girl who plays a sheep, this episode was just a cute and funny memory of mine. I loved the characters, and Charlie Browns difficulty with dealing with so much Christmas cheer. A classic to have on the holidays.

          "How the Grinch Stole Christmas (with Jim Carrey)"

 

                 Now this may not be the original that everyone is used to, but this film from the 2000s was and is hilarious! I don't have cable so I'm not too sure if they play this one on T.V. anymore, but if they still do, I hope the rest of you get to watch it! Jim Carrey brings the Grinch to life, and makes Dr.Suess's book into a living comedy with still a good heartfelt ending.

          "The Big Bang Theory s.2 : The Bath Item Gift Hypothesis"
                    

 

For those early watchers of The Big Bang Theory, you have to remember this episode! I won't

spoil anyone of what the episode was about, but I will spoil the ending for you... Sheldon hugs Penny for the first time! And it is the cutest most awkward hug ever. Seriously nailed it's spot on this list of Christmas favorites.

 

"The Year Without A Santa Claus"

 

 

A Christmas classic that I know should always be playing every year, this film

we watch every year still on the trusty VCR. I always loved these characters when I was little and I was all for team Heat Miser!

 

"Gremlins"

 

 

Now I'm not sure if this film "really" counts as a Christmas film, but it is still one of

my favorites. With it's cheesy 80's music and graphics, and those memorable little gremlin moments, this film I believe fits in with a geek's Christmas.

 

So those are my top five, maybe I left a few classics out, but honestly, they're all my favorite.

Through all the films and show specials, these just throw me into the Christmas spirit and all share a good Christmas moral of sharing, caring, and love. Okay, maybe that was alitttle too Mr.Roger's, but it's true!

 

Anyway, apologize for being so quiet for so long, things are starting to

slow down now, so I'll try my best to get a write in here and there!

Who would win? (Pokemon)

      So throughout their early start in the 1990's, many young people tried to figure out this little war between these three pokemons. The three pokemon, all uniquely different and all containing a power far different from the others. But there came a point, a question, who would win in a pokemon battle?

       Our first pokemon is the mighty Charizard. Now many lean toward this pokemon for a number of reasons, his strenght, speed, power, and his friken amazing appearance. Being a dragon pokemon with a firery blaze portrading from his wide mouth sends his competetors to the ground. His ability of flight allows him to dodge an opponents hits and his speed allows for a difficult target. His small arms don't provide for such a powerful grip, but like the ancient T-Rex, Charizard doesn't rely on his arms, but rather his largh feet and wing power. Overall, Charizard is a powerfully threatening opponent.

        Next Pokemon on our list is a grass type pokemon. Venesaur,  giant in size and with his large flower structure pertruding from his back makes him look like a  tough threat. His loud growl sends as a warning toward his enemies as he lets out an attack of overgrow, damaging his competetor. Unlike Charizard, Venasaur has no flying abilities, nor much speed, but he makes up for those with his ability of strenght. His thick arms provide him with a tight grip and a powerful pressure to press against his opponent.  Like Charizard, Venasaur also has an amazing exterior, with his large mouth, his powerful body and his large plant utop his back.  He gives the chia pet a whole new meaning.

            Last on our list is a pokemon from the water type family. Blastoise. A powerful pokemon with cannon-like shoulders and a large hard shell covering his back. He is both effective in a water or land battle, giving him the strenght to overcome obsticles. With those cannon shoulders, he is able to send off a large blast of water pertruding out of his shoulder cannons, wiping out his competetor. Also like Venesaur, Blastoise lacks speed on his fat legs, but unlike Venesaur who is permenentally slow, Blastoise makes up for it in the water. He glides above the water's serface, quick to knocking out enemies. And unlike Charizard, Blastoise has both powerful legs and arms, allowing him to grip an enemy with ease. Blastoise is a true threat to anyone in the water!

Now it is time to annalyse the three very different competetors, testing each of their
skills. Now I can imagine Charizard skimming the skies, sending down blasts of fire ablaze the ground. Blastoise would easily send his flames out with a blast of water. Now Venesaur could send a shelter of grasses and shrubs around himself, creating a strong defense against Blastoise. But, Charizard could easily set Venasaur's shelter into flames, knocking Venesaur out of the battle. We'd now be down to Blastoise and Charizard. Charizard at this point would be down below, setting rings of fire around the two, caging them in. Blastoise could keep a grip on Charizard with his strong arms, keeping Charizard at his reach. As Charisard is sending out a blast of flames, Blastoise could sen in a powerful blast of water into the dragon's mouth, shutting down his inner flame and eventually knocking out his component, making Blastoise the winner.


Do you agree? Just remember this is just my opinion and is not the words of a proffecional
Pokemon expert. And no matter what the outcome, we should remember that these three Pokemon are all the most memorable and original of all the Pokemons. They created one of the hardest desicions of our childhood (if any of ou remember Pokemon Red and Blue). And overall, these three are just an a mazing piece of the Pokemon legacy.

Trick or Treating...

        So... the question always comes to me around this month. Whether or not I should walk around door to door and ask for candy. And after you hit about 12, you begin to feel alittle odd about doing Trick or Treating. You're lot older now, and you're about to be the same height as most of the adults answering the door. It begins to feel really awkward. Which this made me mad. Because as a kid, this was the most best holiday ever. You dress up, you stay out late, you get candy, and everything is amazing.

       So for today's blog, I decided to cover some little things in the catagorie of Halloween.

 

For the first question, I actually looked up some opinions for the answer. This answer

didn't shock me, and if anything, it just dissapointed me. It said that the age limit for girl trick or treaters is 14, boys is 12. Reasoning, I don't know. But that's what they say i guess, and I've broken this rule many times. But from my last trip from last year, I finally am giving up trick or treating, for it was really odd bumping into parents who glared at me and my friend throughout the neighborhood.

 

My last statement could enter for the second topic, When Trick or Treating gets weird. Now

I never really felt weird about going out and having a good time. But that was back when i was like 14, and my little sisters provided an age shield for me, making me seem younger. But last year was different. I went out with a friend of mine, and we are both far from the 14 age braccet now, and throughout the night, we got asked, 'why we were doing this,' or ,'how old we were.' I felt rude and silly, and just awkward.

 

And I guess that's it for me. No more of the door to door candy collecting for me. And on to a different type of awkward for me... Halloween parties. Now, sometimes these are amazing and can be really fun, or really stupid ans shameful. And by shameful I mean, horrible short costumes, horrible music, dumb people who don't know your costume and overal bordom.

 

I'm proud to say I've never attended such a thing. But then again, I think this is basically

the only thing to do on Halloween for an elder person such as I, either party or candy passer-outer. Which both make me snore. I've never been a huge party fan, but I think a party of friends in costumes having candy and watching horrifying movies could be a great way to spend such a cool holiday. But, until that happens, I'm stuck at my door passing candy.
